Sadao Nakajima Special

Yoshimoto Gion Kagetsu

Director Sadao Nakajima, who served as Honorary Chair of the Festival's Executive Committee, passed away on June 11, 2023. In honor of Sadao Nakajima, who contributed to Kyoto's film culture and the KIFF for many years, we will hold the Memorial Screening for Sadao Nakajima featuring some of Nakajima's favorite films and guests who will share their memories of Sadao Nakajima.

We will be screening the popular 2022 film Nyantabi Tetsudo, a period drama with a new sensation set in Kyoto that effectively combines friendly live-action footage from cats’ perspectives with animation to depict the story of a train station where miracles happen.

Creator's Factory

The Creator's Factory was established at the 5th Okinawa International Movie Festival. The KIFF has also implemented this project as an open competition to discover the next generation of talent in visual culture. This year, for the first time, we will hold workshops for children with the expectation that they will be the first step for future filmmakers and actors.

Anime works which can only be seen here include a new work by G9+1, possibly the "world's oldest" creative animation group of veteran Japanese animation artists and an entertainment anime that creates a kind of new laughter through the fusion of "comedians x anime," with an original script written by comedians and adapted into an anime.

Local Origination Movies

Kyoto International Manga Museum

The Local Origination Movies project aims to realize, through film, the passionate desire of local people to revitalize their community by sharing the many fascinations of their town with the rest of the country. The local community participated in the production of the film through writing the script, acting in the film, and other aspects.

Joint Works With Okinawa International Movie Festival

There will be screening of magnificent short films produced in Okinawa that were screened at the 15th Okinawa International Movie Festival held in April 2023. After the screening, the cast and Okinawa's own Garage Sale will greet the audience on stage.
