Kyoto Tsutaya Books (located on the fifth and sixth floor of Kyoto Takashimaya Shopping Center [T8] in Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto City) will hold an opening exhibition, Cell Field, from October 17th (Tues.) to November 7th (Tues.) in the fifth floor exhibition space. The exhibition is a joint project of the internationally active Kyoto-based sculptor Kohei Nawa and his creative platform, Sandwich, which he founded in Fushimi, Kyoto in 2009. Cell Field is a painting made using oil paints that change over the course of several months. In addition, the exhibition will also include a series of prints that depict cells in different physical states, along with test pieces and material samples, giving the room a studio-like atmosphere. Nawa’s first studio book will also be published to coincide with the exhibition, and includes materials from the course of creating his works and experimental scenes, along with texts written by four scholars and creators closely connected to Nawa and Sandwich. Nawa will share the world and space that he has cultivated together with Sandwich.
